Canon Flash on V6iis

I purchased a V6iis to use on my Sony A7Rii with my Canon Flashes 600EX-RT and 430EXii.

Are the profiles for those flash units in the V6iis? It doesn't look like they are to me, scrolling through its a couple of Sony/Metz and Nissin flashes. I was under the impression that the Sony V6iis had a hot shoe specific to Sony but that the flash system mounted on it could be any flash and that the V6iis had all the same profiles as the V6/V6ii?

Any help appreciated.

  • Hi @stoneysnapper

For your 600EX-RT, you need the V6 II:
    http://store.cactus-image.com/cactus-v6-ii-wireless-hss-fp-flash-transceiver/

V6 IIs is only for Sony camera and Sony system flash.

If you look at the Sony version V6 IIs, the top hot shoe has a Sony MI shoe, which does not work with non-Sony flash devices.

Please let us know if you require further assistance.

    Thank you.

  • Thanks Antonio, hopefully Damien Lovegrove will swap it for me. I was of the understanding to get the connectivity/ettl with the Sony A7Rii I had to use the V6iis. Do I still get full functions ettl/hss with the V6ii on a Sony A7Rii with a 600EX-RT?

There's no wireless TTL, the E-TTL part is only between your 600EX-RT and the V6 II RX unit.

There is HSS. The V6 II and IIs support cross-brand HSS. So you will be able to shoot above your Sony camera's x-sync, and trigger Canon, Fuji, Nikon, Olympus, Panasonic system flashes ...and Sony too (if you have one) - all at the same time too!

If your V6 IIs is still in pristine conditions, I think Damien Lovegrove should be alright with exchanging one for you.

    Thank you!

  • Thanks Antonio, I've not used it other than to switch it on and when I ran through the profiles I immediately guessed there was a problem.

    Thanks again.

  • Hi there.

I think I'm getting late to an old problem: I've just bought two Cactus 6 IIs to use them on my Sony A7RII.
I had understood (reading foros and blogs), that I could use Canon flashes (550EX and 420EX), with my Sony camera, throught the Cactus 6 IIs.
I have them both today, and I'm reading now (after trying instalation), that I should have one 6 II for using the Canon flash (Yes, I'm one of those who didn't understand).

I bought them at B&H thanks to a friend that brought them to me from N.Y.
The problem is that I'm in Uruguay so I can't go for a change. Anyway, I'll try to buy one more and make it send by courier.  Is it completely sure I need the Cactus 6 II and not the Cactus 6 IIs to trigger the Canon flashes wireless with my Sony cam? Or is it posible to trigger them somehow in a manual mode?
Thanks everybody there that could help!!
  • You need the V6II.

  • Hi @Andres_Mont,

... Or is it posible to trigger them somehow in a manual mode?

I guess you could try manual mode, but then what's the point in using the Cactus V6 II and V6 IIs?

The magic is all about able to have HSS even cross-brand, that is from your Sony camera to the Canon flash.

V6 IIs = for Sony camera and Sony flash

    V6 II = for non-Sony flash.

    Cheers!

  • Hi.
    Muchas gracias Lansa y Antonio.
Yes Antonio, I'd like to take all the juice out of these Cactus, but by now, at least want to make them work.  In fact I have to take pics on an event in a week and I must make these boys work.

Finally I got one more Cactus from B&H, this time a Cactus 6 II for one Canon (the other will have to wait by now). I have it since toninght, and I couldn't manage to make it work with the Canon 550EX yet.
Didn't find the profile for it.
Should I use "Auto Canon" for it, or an specific profile?
I'm finding this quite complicated by now. I've downloaded manuals and files so I will have a "student week end".
Any coments or shortcuts allways welcome.
Thanks and have a nice weekend.
  • Canon 550EX is an older model, which DOES NOT run on digital TTL protocols so it will not work on the V6 II, unfortunately.

Maybe you should just replace your old Canon unit with a Cactus RF60X

    Hello
I am one of those people who will ask what has been answered but my understanding of English does not help me
I just need to be told what to buy and what firmware to install to use 3 set-ups
1- Sony A7 RII with following flashes Canon on receiver - 580EX; 580 EX II; 430EXII and 600EX-RT
2- Canon 1D Mk IV with the same flashes on the receiver
3- Sony A7RII with a transmitter and the Sony HVL-F43M flash on the receiver
I know there are many questions, but I've spent so much money on other systems and nothing works, please help me.

    Thank you

OK, Let me explain it by parts:
    1. SONY setup.
You need one V6IIS (Sony) acting as transmitter on the A7IIR camera and one V6IIS attached to the HVL-F43M. Until here you can use the latest A (SON.A.XXX) firmware.
    2. Canon Setup.
You need one V6II on your 1D MIV acting as transmitter and one V6II on each of your Canon flashes. Until here you can use the latest A (CAN.A.XXX) firmware.
    3. Mixed set up.
SONY flashes only works with SONY cameras.
SONY A7IIR camera with one V6IIS (SONY) Firmware SON.A.XXX and your Canon flashes, each one with one V6II Firmware CAN.A.XXX

Machine translated (I guess that you speak Portuguese):

    OK, deixe-me explicar por partes:
