Cactus RF60 - if you haven't bought a pair of V6 transceivers yet?

Since it has built-in wireless you don't need to mount the flash on an V6, less clumpsy, uses 2 less batteries, and you don't need to worry about hot shoe connection problems between the transceiver and the flash.

You may also consider used flash units, such as Nikon SB-28, I see on Amazon they runs around $85.

Hello @MichelSauret,

RF60 is a manual flash, and not a TTL flash. 

FYI it only has a single hot shoe pin so it only receives a triggering signal.

When shopping around for a third party TTL Nikon flash, how do I look to see if that flash has analogue vs. digital TTL capability?

For example, I'm looking at a Vivitar DF-372 as an option and it says it is compatible with Nikon i-TTL.

Nikon's i-TTL means it's digital, as is Canon's E-TTL I / E-TTL II. They are all digital.

Most manufactures keeps the analogue TTL by naming the flash mode as "TTL", without the i, E, etc.

I am not 100% sure but this Vivitar looks very similar to the Triopo flash. Triopo, as a Mainland China manufacturer, 99% it only has digital TTL (i-TTL) and no analogue TTL. So SB-700 either works with it or it doesn't.

Will you use this new flash mainly off-camera or on-camera?

As on-camera flash, enable TTL Pass Through on the V6, and whatever Nikon TTL flash it is, it will work as if it is mounted directly on the camera. So you don't really need to check if it works with the V6.

It's only for off-camera use, you will need to check compatibility. 

Note: a TTL flash mounted on V6 for off-camera does not have any TTL functions. The V6 only talks to a flash in TTL mode to control it's power, and nothing else.

Antonio, I have a particular setup when I shoot weddings. I usually have a trigger on my camera to control two off-camera flashes, and I keep a TTL flash on camera (with pass-through) so that I can have that for fill light while I'm shooting in the middle of the dance floor.

If you only need it for on-camera TTL Pass Through then an i-TTL only flash would work just fine.

Class A

In addition to the flash models Antonio listed, you can also select from those Nikon-compatible models which were confirmed to be compatible for profiling with the V6, i.e., it is possible to create a profile for them (through a simple procedure).

Some of those models may not support the "TTL" functionality you might be after, though. Unless they support "i-TTL" rather than just "TTL" you probably don't want them for your purposes.
