Press and hold the MENU button until you see TTL PASS THROUGH appears briefly on screen. A “TTL” logo will be displayed on the bottom left of the LCD panel on the main screen.
While the V6 does not transmit TTL signal wirelessly, the TTL pass-through is designed to pass TTL signal from camera to flash via the transmitter (TX) and vice versa. With TTL pass-through, the TTL flash behave as they would when directly mounted to the camera hot shoe.
To enable TTL pass-through in the V6 TX, please mount the 580EX directly to V6 and 5DM3 (flash > V6 > camera). Turn on the V6 at TX, press and hold the MENU button until the LCD show the TTL pass-through indicator at the left bottom corner where the channel indicator used to be.
In TTL pass-through mode, the V6 TX cannot control the power level of the flashes attached.
To disable the TTL pass-through mode, pree and hold MENU button for 2 seconds. The TTL pass-through indicator will be replaced by the channel indicator on the LCD.
In the first paragraph you say "With TTL pass-through, the TTL flash behave as they would when directly mounted to the camera hot shoe"
in the 3rd paragraph you say "In TTL pass-through mode, the V6 TX cannot control the power level of the flashes attached. "
How can it be behaving the same if it does not control power as this is what TTL is supposed to be doing?
I had the same problem as others with the TTL not working at all until I jiggled it a bit and then I could here the zoom working in my flash. Mounted Camera -> V6 -> Olympus FL600R flash.
Do you mean that it can't control off camera flash power?
I would like to know as well what the above statement is trying tot clarify, because my 430ex flash is having trouble functioning properly when attached tot a v6. Sometimes TTL works, and sometimes it suddenly doesnt

Now most people don't need to tinker with the max +3 / -3 EV adjustment on the flash outputs. But if you do, that's at max you could do in terms of controlling the power - either directly on the flash unit or from the camera menu.
Now with the V6 mounted between camera and the flash:
The flash basically functions just the same, where you could only have the same amount of controls of +3 / -3 EV, and this is not done from the V6, but the usual way of adjusting directly on the flash.
All we are saying here is that you cannot adjust the on-camera TTL flash power outputs from the V6 Adjustment Dial as you would with off-camera flash units. And the on-camera TTL flash would do its own thing of automatic exposure metering.

A related point here .... I understand the TTL pass-through function which is working well for me. I am referring here to an on-camera V6 with TTL flash mounted on the V6 also....
I have also set the flash profile on my V6 for my system dedicated flash (in my case a Pentax AF-540FGZ). I noticed that when holding the Menu button in order to activate TTL pass-through, that I briefly see the information 'Pentax AF2' appear, then 'TTL Pass-through'.
So I know that the profile is correct for my Pentax flash. But I am not able to control the Pentax manual power from the V6 controls. Am I right to think that if I deactivate TTL pass-through that I should be able to adjust the manual power output of the flash on the V6 from the V6 ? It's just because it would be quicker than using the flash dial and buttons.
I wonder, does the flash need to be set itself to Manual mode? One issue is that of the group setting for the on-camera flash ...ie, there isn't one! Is that why it doesn't work? Am I missing the correct way to tell the V6 to communicate with the flash attached to it?
If you are using TTL Pass Through then the flash will fire automatically according to the camera's metering. In that case, you won't need to adjust the flash power outputs manually - neither on the flash nor on the V6.
On the flip side, if you want to manually control the power output of the on-camera flash (Camera > V6 > AF-540FGZ) then you should not enable TTL Pass Through. You can adjust the flash power but holding the MENU button and scrolling the Selection Dial. Here's demo video I found.
For both cases you will still need to select a flash profile. You should select one whenever you have that option.

Thanks both ....I had missed that method of using the menu button plus selector. So obviously the on -camera flash doesn't have a group (they are only for radio triggered slaves), but so long as the flash is profiled and that profile selected on the V6 then we get that manual control with the method described.
Probably not much different to making the adjustments directly in manual mode on the flash itself. Thanks for clarifying it all .I have both AF540 'MkI' and 'MkII' models so need to change the profile as needed.
