  • I'm afraid you'll need to remove the Nikon SB-800 from that list, at least until a firmware update is made available that fixes the compatibility issues that came about as a result of updating the firmware to 1.0.175.  Version 1.0.183 has not corrected the problems either.  I had no problems with an SB-800 on a V6 when I had firmware version 1.0.152 installed, but updating to 1.0.175 made the SB-800 wildly erratic in its behavior.  You can see more details about this in the "V6 Problems" forum.
  • Hi Dan

    Thank you for the report. We have studied your case and prepared an internal development firmware version 1.0.184 to resolve the problem with SB-800 on V6.  Hopefully, it will correct the problem which found unstable in V1.0.175. I have sent you a link to download the firmware in your INBOX. I wish you have time to give it a try.

    Cheers!
  • Ray, yes I received your email mentioning the development version 1.0.184 and suggesting that I install it.  However, the link you sent me to download that version does not contain any new firmware... only a ZIP file containing the setup file for version 1.12 of the Cactus Updater Software.  Please see my comments to you in the "V6 Problems" forum or refer to the reply I sent to you via email to your "Cactus Community" email address.

    Ray,

    I wanted to follow up here and let readers know that firmware version 1.0.184 does indeed seem to have fixed the problem when using an SB-800 on a V6 in Rx mode.  Thanks for the quick attention and solution!

    Dan
  • Hello Dan,
    Awesome! I am happy to hear that.

    Ray
  • Hello, how about the Pentax 540 FGZ II? Is it working? Thank you!

    Andreas
  • edited November 2014
    The Pentax FGZ II models do not support analogue TTL anymore and hence cannot be profiled.

    As there are currently no predefined profiles for FGZ II models, the latter can only be triggered but not remotely power controlled.

    Cactus has been looking into supporting FGZ II models, though.

  • Hi, I bought 2 Yongnuo YN568EX (II) flashes and one V6 and after unboxing it all I find the Yongnuos are not being triggered by the V6, no matter what I do, even after updating the V6 firmware. I spent my money based on your compatibility table and now I am really angry. Please make up a firmware update to solve this problem ASAP.
  • Are you trying to trigger the flashes with just one V6? That won't work. Only the Cactus RF60 has a built-in V6 receiver; for every other flash you need one V6 receiver per flash you want to control.

    In your case you'd need two more V6 in order to control both of your flashes at the same time.

    I haven't read the product description by Cactus in a long while but I hope they make that clear.

    P.S.: You also need to make sure that you have the "for Canon" version of the YN-568 EX because the Nikon version is not supported.
  • It is not even remotely clear!!!
    Remote Power Control of Canon, Nikon, Pentax, Olympus and Panasonic flashes

    Each flash model has its individual power level characteristics.
    We have profiled more than 30 popular flash models across a wide range
    of brands so that the V6 can precisely control their output levels. With
    this unique feature, photographers can remotely control the flash power
    of various flash models, even of different brands.

    Currently, more than 30 popular flash models from Canon, Nikon, Pentax, Olympus, Panasonic, Metz, Nissin,
    etc. have been profiled and pre-installed on the V6. By selecting the
    pre-installed flash model on the Cactus V6 the photographer can remotely
    control the flash power output of the selected flash model wirelessly
    through the Cactus V6.

    If a flash model is not listed, the V6 may even learn its flash
    profile and then be able to control the power output of the flash. (See
    note on compatibility)

    ...

    Flash model profiles pre-installed in V6:

    Canon system models:

    - Cactus AF45C, AF50C;

    - Canon 320EX, 420EX, 430EX, 430EXII, 430EZ, 540EZ, 580EX, 580EXII, 600EX-RT;

    - Godox V860C;

    - Metz 36AF-5, 44AF-1, 50AF-1, 52AF-1, 58AF-1, 58AF-2;

    - Nissin Di866 MARK II, MG8000;

    - Phottix Mitros, Mitros Plus;

    - Sigma EF-500 DG SUPER;

    - Yongnuo YN568EX II;

    Where do they say that you need to spend another 120 bucks on two more V6?
    I am truly disappointed with this. And no one is going to give my money back because this is dealing with China.

    Bullshit.

    From the product description at the GadgetInfinity store website:

    "This listing is for ONE (1) Cactus V6 ONLY. You need a minimum of two (2) V6 units: one V6 as a Transmitter and a second V6 as a Receiver to trigger and remote power control of one (1) portable flash unless you have a Cactus RF60 / LV5 / V5 which has a built-in transceiver."

    I don't know where you bought your V6 from, but if it was from GadgetInfinty then you are dealing with a Hong Kong based company and I have only had excellent communication with them.

    They may not be able to take the V6 back because it is working as described, but perhaps you can find a solution after all.

    Hello,

    I have aquired a pair of Cactus V6 and i satisfied by the result using Nikon SB-900.
    Beside that, i also own a Metz 64 AF-1 witch cannot find within your profile list. I have tryed to use Metz 58 AF-2 but unfortunately the result were not satisfactory.
    Can you reccomend specific profile or i have to wait for a new firmware update?

    Looking forward to your answer.
  • Hi funnikon,

    Maybe you can try Metz 36AF-5 for Nikon in V6. I heard people found success with that profile for Metz 64 AF-1.

  • Hi
    I have a Meike 430; I expect that this flash will work with the Canon 430 profile?
    I also have a "vintage" Vivitar 636AF which was originally used with a Minolta 7000. The flash is ttl dedicated but can only be set to 2 different levels manually. Any chance of profiling this flash or use any of the existing profiles?

    Jta
  • @jta we haven't tried a Meike flash so we are not sure.

    As for the Vivitar 636AF, since it was for a Minolta then it should not work because at the moment the V6 only supports: Canon, Nikon, Panasonic, Olympus and Pentax TTL flashes.

    Thank you.

  • I made a mistake an bought the Cactus V6 the thinking it would support the Nikon Nissin MG800. I now realize that only the Canon version is supported. Will the Nikon Nissin MG8000 ever be supported?
  • Will the V6 work with Vivitar 285HV flashes?  Anyone know?
  • The V6 works with the Vivitar 285HV, but since the latter is purely a manual flash, only triggering but no remote power control is supported.
  • Yesterday a nice day playing with the V6 and the RF60. As I also own a Metz 58-AF1 this is supported for CANON, I wonder if this will also be supported for the PENTAX version.

    I also have three Lumopro's (quad version). Am I correct in thinking that they can only be triggered and not remote power controlled?
  • edited March 2015
    Regarding the Lumopros: Yes, as these are single-pin flashes, their power levels cannot be remote controlled.
  • Mharda, I use Metz AF58-1 with Pentax and they learnt the profile first time and continue to work perfectly.

  • Thanks for confirming, Donald.

    I've added the Metz AF58-1 to the list (first post).

    @Mharda: Once you profiled your 58 AF-1 (see the manual), you'll be able to use it as if it had been supported with a predefined profile.
  • Is there anybody who knows how to make the MEIKE MK600 (CANON) work with the V6 system? Thanks
  • Hi @majno try selecting Canon's 320EX profile on the V6.

    Thanks!

  • so I want to be 100% sure because I am a little unsure. So Cactus is saying that I can trigger and control any flash on the compatibility list using per say a Pentax camera. Like for example on my case I can buy a Yongnuo YN568EX II for Canon or a Nikon SB-800 for Nikon from a Pentax K-5 camera?
  • Like for example on my case I can buy a Yongnuo YN568EX II for Canon or a Nikon SB-800 for Nikon from a Pentax K-5 camera?
    That's correct.

    There is no P-TTL support, except for a flash mounted on an on-camera V6, but manual power level control via radio is available for a large variety of flashes from different manufacturers.
  • ok. so only P-TTL support is available for my pentax k-5 with only pentax supported flashes.
