Pentax K1 on Manual Mode but can't change shutter speed

Just recently purchased two Rf60x and a V6ii. Worked for a few shots then now I can't take the camera above or below 1/200 in shutter speed. Please advise.

  • I guess the SYNC mode in the V6 II TX menu may be set to HSS OFF. So, the shutter speed is limited to 1/200. You can change the option to NORMAL HSS. That will solve the problem.

By the way, can you let us know that firmware that is loaded in your device. To check it,
RF60X : Press and hold the NEXT button while switching it to ON from OFF position,
V6 II: go to MENU, PREFERENCE, scroll to FIRMWARE VERSION

    I hope that helps.

  • Updated the firmware. Product was set to HSS On. Manual Flash.
  • Are you still having a problem?

What mode is the camera in?
    I recommend manual mode ("M").

Some of the automated modes (e.g., "Av") do not work well when using flash and work worse if the lens isn't a modern Pentax lens with AF and a means to (crudely) measure distance.
  • I think I fixed it. I only shoot in Manual. All my lenses are modern (24-70 Pentax) (70-200 Tamron) and a host of others in between.

I guess I have to use the V6ii with Mixed TTL + HSS Mode in order for it to work. Am I correct in this assumption?
  • Unless the V6II is in HSS mode, it won't allow shutter speeds above 1/200.

You shouldn't be forced to use Mixed TTL mode, though. Any of the three modes should work, as long as the sync-mode supports HSS.
  • Hmm.. Well I am forced to use Mixed TTL mode unfortunately. It's quite a bummer and it will not work with both units on HSS Mode. What is the fix for this problem?

    Strange.

Perhaps try a different firmware version. If you are using PEN.A.001 perhaps try PEN.A.003 and vice versa.

I personally don't use the X-TTL variant so don't have much experience with it, but I don't remember such issues from beta testing the X-TTL variant for Pentax.

  • Updated. Got it working, then on a shoot again today and same issue kept popping up. I wonder if my V6ii is faulty. I will try and update all firmware again and give it another shot.
