Problems with Nikon Camera :(

Dear Madam/Sir,
I'm full time wedding photographer and I just buy five V6 II. I'm Nikon D700, D800 and SB-900, SB-910 user. First of all get firmware downloader software from your website and update all the VR6 II to the latest Nikon TTL firmware "Nik A 003".
When I attached VR6 II to Nikon D800 and setup the camera as a Nikon, all the group A,B,c and D RX receivers works great as a TTL and manual. No problem at all. However, when I attach SB-900 or SB-910 to V6 II which is already top of the camera, than camera CAN NOT auto focus in AF-S mode in the dark. AF-Assist light not works at all even in TX or SB-900. I did factory restore, try other 4 V6 II and all are same. I try TTL Pass trough and no luck. I try Nikon D700 still no luck.
So I think your firmware has bug. So please test it with Nikon camera in the shadow. You will see AF-Assist will not work ın AF-S mode. However when I set my camera AF-C everything is fine.

So I update the firmware to Multi brand HSS "62.A.001" and don't have any focus problem at all. But can not use TTL remotely So please check.

My other problem is I don't like V6 II AF-Assist light. its too powerful. But however when I enable TTL Pass trough Nikon Speedlight AF-Assist light must turn on but its not. So could you make it possible to be able to use flash's assist light? Because of it has pattern, its more accurate and fast to focus on flat surfaces. I wish new generation V6 II will have pattern in AF-Assist.

Thanks in advance.
Hope to hear from you soon.

  • LOL ... Replied to your email, Facebook messages already.

(Guys you don't have to do this... we do reply, you know?)

Here's the reply copied and pasted:

AF-assist light not transferring to an on-camera Nikon speedlgiht - is not a bug, but a limitation. Unfortunately this is not something that can be done.

If you feel the AF-assist light is too strong on the V6 II, you can adjust it lower output.

In order to have a "pattern" for the AF-assist, it requires a lot more space, which would make the transceiver unit a lot bigger. Maybe in the future we can add this in a new housing.

    Thank you very much!

  • Ok, I'm not used to see such as customer service. That reason why I ask everywhere
I did first long therm night shoot at wedding few days ago and I love Cactus V6 II in general (except buggy nikon firmware as I mention before). However, my the biggest problem was I can not focus quickly with this unit at night. So I lost lots of moment at wedding (Nikon D700, D800 24-70 f2.8, 70-200 F2.8, 50mm F1.4 etc). I understand your respond about my AF-Assist problem but can not understand why its not possible to transfer Af-assist light to speedlights even with firmware update. Shouldn't be too difficult to add one option to the menu. Anyway, I have only one solution now. Sent them back to seller
Hope to see you on upcoming new hardware.
Thanks again for great support and quick reply.
