Issue with using in-camera menu with FUJ.A.002

I have noticed a communication error between TX and flash unit, using a Fuji X-Pro2 (FW 5.00) , two V6II (FW FUJ.A.002, group metering switched on), one RF60X (FW A.07) and one M400 (FW 1.2). I am able to repoduce it consistently, the steps I take:

1: switch on M400
2: switch on V6II-RX
3: switch on X-Pro2
4: switch on V6II-TX
5: use the buttons on the TX-unit to set M mode
6: use the wheel on the TX-unit to set flash power
-notice flash power changing on the TX-unit, RX-unit and on the flash and in the camera menu
7: use the in-camera menu to set flash power
- notice flash power changing in the in-camera menu and on the TX-unit, but not on the RX-unit and on the flash (this might take >1 step of change)
8: use the wheel on the TX-unit again to change flash power
- notice flash power changing again on the RX-unit and flash again

The same applies to flash-compensation in TTL-mode, and to the RF60X on the receiving end instead of a V6II-RX. Apparently changes from the in-camera menu apply to the TX-unit, but are not propagated to the RX-module.

Comments

  • I just tried the RF60X because of the issue mentioned in https://www.cactus-image.com/community/discussion/24788/x-t10-issue-with-ttl-version-fuj-a-001, and I have noticed when using the RF60X and V6II-TX in M mode, flash power is changed when using the in camera menu, but the display on the RF60X only appears to change when using the wheel on the TX module.
  • Yes, flash power output was indeed changed, it's only the display that did not get an update.

    Thanks for reporting!

  • For the V6II-RX this does apparently not apply, in that case it looks like the attached flash does not get the appropriate signals! I hope this can soon be fixed.
  • Thanks @itsme I have forwarded your case to R&D for further handling. Will hit back once I hear back from you.

I hope the work on fixing things is progressing nicely.

I have noticed one more thing, which I find a bit harder to reproduce. The connection between camera and V6 II fails rather often after updating, often the camera does not recognize the flash. Power cycling camera&transceiver repeatedly does often, but not always, fix this. I have cleaned the contacts of both flash and transceiver, and I align the hotshoe as I have done before so I suppose it probably is a software issue.

Looking forward to an improved firmware.
  • I hope so too.. as I haven't heard back from them. Will chase them on Monday.

    Thanks for the nudge.

  • 3 V6II transceivers, Fuji X-T2 camera, one Canon 580EXII and one 430EXII flash. Camera V6II in hot shoe to TX, each flash on V6II in RX both off camera. Does the in camera flash settings have to be changed when switching from manual to pass thru TTL? or leave the camera internal flash settings alone.
I have both flashes set to ETTL and have firmware Fuji A 002 on all three transceivers.
  • I will be changing up to the X-T3, will my Cactus V6II require firmware updates or work with my present setup?

    You did the right thing.

As long as you want the flash to work with the V6 II, it has to be in E-TTL / TTL mode.

Yes, the X-T3 will work, one of our x-photographer friend has already tested it.

Any news about a firmware update with fixes?
  • @itsme Rest assured. The fix will be included in the next firmware update. It won't be long.

  • @raychan good to know, I am a bit surprised errors like this would slip through QC, especially the issues with a flash on an RX-V6II
  • FUJ.A.003 appears to work all right, I must say I am a bit suprised the issues with 002 were not found before its release.
  • @itsme Thank you for your info.

  • It appears there still is an issue with communication between the RX-V6II and the mounted flash (in my case Metz M400) in firmware FUJ.A.004, but I cannot pinpoint an exact cause, it occurs after some use.
