Software updates

Hi Antonio, I see that you have a new software update available for the V6II & RF60x. Can you tell me if I download the Multi Software is there any functionality lost over downloading the individual camera brand software? I shoot Pentax K1 best regards.....David

  • Hi David,

There aren't any differences between existing Multi-brand HSS firmware versions, 1.1.013 vs V62.A.001.

Individual brand firmware, X-TTL for Pentax, PEN.A.001, PEN.A.002, and PEN.A.003, are all different than Multi-brand HSS firmware (1.1.013 or V62.A.001)

If you are happily using a Pentax X-TTL firmware, you should just update to the latest Pentax PEN.A.003.

    Cheers!

To help us better help you, always state the exact firmware version installed on your Cactus device(s), such as: "1.1.013", "NIK.A.001", "v.103", or "A06".

TTL or HSS not working on Cactus V6 II and V6 IIs? Be sure to check hot shoe connectivity by doing the <CAMERA INFO> check.

  • Hi Antonio, many thanks for your reply, I must say that am no bothered that much in using P-TTL, and will mainly use in manual mode where I can control the power and zoom. My real question is If I use the dedicated Pentax firmware and want to then hand it to a student to fire the strobe with their Canon or Nikon will it fire the RF60X, and could it still fire the Pentax 540 flash all in manual, or should I install the Multi brand firmware!

If you want to hand the V6II trigger to a Canon or Nikon shooter then you should definitely use a multi-brand firmware. It will still support HSS (for all brands), just no P-TTL (e.g. automatic metering).

Even though I'm only using Pentax, I keep using the multi-brand version because I don't need anything beyond remote manual power control.
  • Hi @davidr , like @Class A mentioned above, if you are not bothered with or simply do not need automatic TTL flash exposure, then sticking to the Multi-brand HSS firmware is just fine (e.g. V62.A.001).

    Cheers

  • Hi Antonio, many thanks, that's what I was thinking! Obviously, there are some extra functions available in the individual manufacturer's firmware otherwise you would only need to produce the Multi Firmware, but when I want to share the V6ii with a mixture of camera users, during a demonstration, the multi firmware is the way to go. I think I will now change all to the latest multi firmware.
    Thanks again.......David
  • Yeah, if you've got multiple camera systems in the mix, Multi-brand HSS is the way to go!

  • Thanks, Antonio for your confirmation, that clears things up for me.
