Can I somehow use the V6 IIs in my V6 II and V6 set up for Pentax?

I use a couple of V6 II units + one V6 with my Pentax k-1 camera and Pentax 540FGZ flashes. My V6 II units have an X-TTL firmware, so, unfortunately, now I don't use the V6 unit anymore. I needed at least another one V6 II unit.

On the eBay I found a cheap lot of two used triggers: V6 II and V6 IIs. So I won it. I hoped I could replace the V6 IIs contacts with the contacts from my V6 and make a one V6 II from both V6 and V6 IIs triggers but it turned out that these triggers have different wire connectors inside. Now I have two triggers that I can't use: V6 and V6 IIs
Is there a way that would help me to somehow use the V6 IIs in my Pentax set up?

  • Uh-oh!

Did you really meant to type "Cactus V6 IIs", the Sony version?

Sony and Pentax won't work together.

As listed on V6 II's page, https://www.cactus-image.com/v6ii.html (scroll to bottom of page), Pentax flashes cannot be triggered by a non-Pentax camera.

The same goes for Sony flashes...

Again scroll to bottom of page.

Do you have a Sony camera? Or Sony flashes?
If you have a Sony camera and wish to trigger a Pentax flash, it will not work.

So the answer to your question is a no.

TTL or HSS not working on Cactus V6 II and V6 IIs? Be sure to check hot shoe connectivity by doing the <CAMERA INFO> check.

  • Yes, the lot I won consisted of two triggers: one V6 II and one V6 IIs. Alright, thank you, Antonio, for your quick reply. I'll try to sell my V6 IIs unit.
As for the ordinary V6, do I understand correctly that it will never work with the V6 II (manual mode of the X-TTL firmware for Pentax firmware)?
  • The V6 will work one day with V6 II running X-TTL, we just do not have a schedule yet.

This fact I got it straighten out with R&D couple weeks ago. I misunderstood them before.

If you will ever be getting a Sony camera, you could keep the V6 IIs, but you just gotta trigger a non-P-TTL flash.

    Thanks!

  • One way of using the V6II and V6 units together is to use the multi-brand firmware.

You'd not have the P-TTL features like automated metering, but you'd still have remote power control over your flash, including HSS.

Yes, I am aware of this, thank you! However, I don't want to lose P-TTL in the units that support it.

This is a great news! It means I don't have to sell my V6 unit. I just hope that the day when they are able to work together will come sooner.
As a temporary solution, maybe you could make a firmware that will consist of two firmware versions: X-TTL + multi-brand? So one could easily select the needed firmware in the menu of his/her units, PC connection won't be needed anymore.

I wish too, but we ran out of ROM size already unfortunately.
