Ambassadors

Out of interest, what are the requirements to become a Cactus Ambassador?

Comments

  • Hi @davidr,

What we look for from our ambassador is someone who hosts regular flash photography workshops and/or have a strong social media influence.

    Thank you.

  • Hi Antonio, Thanks for your reply, I am a professional photographer currently shoot with a Pentax K1. I have a home studio, but am looking to add some Cactus equipment to my arsenal of equipment, I also give beginner and intermediate level photography lessons. My current speedlight is the Pentax 540, and I look forward to using this in conjunction with V6ii. I will also be adding a RF60x, as in 2018 I will be doing more outside off camera flash portrait work. I already have a past student that is asking about speedlight training, so hopefully your systems will be included in my lessons.

FYI this is my current website davesphotoskerry.wix.com/davesphotoskerry

Hi Antonio, Picked up a RF60x and V6ii today, and have been running through the settings to familiarise myself with the options, so far very good, system and menus easy to use, still on my Christmas vacation, but hope to be busy with the system when I return home in 10 days time, hopefully I will be using the system well by then!

I have installed the latest Pentax software updates on RF60x & V6ii

    Beat regards.....David

Happy New Year to all at Cactus!!
  • Hi Antonio, Sorry to send so much mail to you, but may I make a suggestion with regards the V6ii, I think that the Cactus brand name and model on top of the unit should be picked out in white! like the RF60x, as the black just blends in and is difficult to read? I always feel that the brand name should stand out its free advertising?

    best regards..........David.

  • Thanks David for sharing your website and your new year wishes to the Cactus team.   I trust that you had a great holiday and happy to new year to you!

Hope you are getting on well with the V6 II and RF60X and that they fill your needs well for training sessions. Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks to your suggestions. We have been more understated previously in our product design. After we appoint our brand consultant soon after the release of V6, they recommend a bolder design language - as you have seen on the packaging. So you will be sure to see upcoming products with a more prominent logo on the product.

    Cheers!

  • Hi Antonio, Today I purchased a second V6ii to enable me to trigger my Pentax AF540FGZ Flash off camera. I have spent the last few days getting used to triggering the RF60x remotely and changing both power and zoom settings on it successfully, and am very happy with this combination, so I decided to purchase a second V6ii to add my Pentax flash remotely into the mix, but have been experiencing the following triggering problems, perhaps you could assist?

I first updated the new V6ii to the latest Cactus/Pentax firmware, and installed my Pentax flash on the new trigger set Channel1 group B, with the Cactus RF60x on channel1 Group A. I went through both V6ii to ensure that all configuration settings on both were the same, now the problem, my Pentax flash refused to fire, I could adjust both Power and zoom settings from the camera mounted v6ii so the units were talking to each other, but no flash output from my Pentax Flash. If I pressed the battery power test button on the remote v6ii, the flash fired, so it looks like we have a good connection on the centre pin, the RF60 on Group A always fired ok!

If I switch the two v6ii units around and put my new unit on the camera, the Pentax flash fires ok, if I switch them back again no Pentax flash again, is it possible that there could be a problem on one of the v6ii group outputs? or am I missing something silly?

Just one other point, when adjusting the zoom on the remote Pentax, the zoom setting on the Pentax Flash LCD changes in line with the changes shown on the v6ii, but when I adjust the flash power, the power on the Flashes LCD does not change, although the two v6ii triggers show the power changes, and the flash output power does actually change?

    best regards.....David
  • Hi David,

Just to be sure, run a Factory Reset on both V6 II units and see if the problem is still there.

For testing purposes, use the default auto-detect, V6 II assigning "AUTO"  Pentax flash profile automatically.  Just remember to switch on the flash first and set it to TTL mode, before switching on the V6 II to RX mode.

And in case there are some weird firmware bugs, try setting to other groups and see if it makes any difference. i.e. could it only be Group B that's causing the triggering issue? How about A, C and D on the same unit?

Flash power not displaying on the Pentax flash LCD is perfectly normal.  Power won't display either if you mount the flash directly on camera hot shoe.   Now, despite you are manually controlling the flash power output, the flash is operating in TTL mode; it does not know the actual power output until you release camera shutter button, the moment it pre-flash.

    Hope this helps!

  • Hi Antonio, Many thanks for your prompt reply, carried out a factory reset now all ok! thank you so much for the advice, I am so pleased that the system has proved to be without fault.

We will be leaving Singapore and travelling back to Ireland on Wednesday this week, where I will be able to continue my familiarisation with the Cactus units, but may I say at this point that the units are now operating to my expectations and requirements, thanks for manufacturing a fantastic product, and I will certainly be promoting it in Ireland at every opportunity.

Your service, prompt replies and product updates inline with your schedules are amazing, and Cactus should be very proud of this. I know I will be purchasing additional products shortly.

    Best regards.....David....Dave's Photos
  • Glad to hear your set is working okay now.

Most of the time what prevented the V6 II from behaving normally are the manual selections for camera systems / flash system / flash profile.

If you want to dedicated one unit to always use as a Receiver (RX) and always paired it with your Pentax flash, you can certainly manually select the flash system and profile. Use the sticker set included with every V6 II packaging so you won't mix up the transceiver after each unpacking.

Thank you for being evangelical for Cactus!  If you have any training / classes in mind do contact our UK distributor for opportunities.

  • Hi Antonio, Just for your info, I have just uploaded my first photo using Cactus equipment, its titled 'King Puck' a subtle use of flash on a bronze statue of a goat! I have also nearly completed writing up a tutorial on using off camera speed lights using cactus equipment, and when complete will be advertising this training on my facebook and web page.

With your permission of course, I also intend to shortly have your products added to my website, including a link to Cactus in my links page! perhaps you could verify that this is acceptable. It is an ambition of mine to join your team of Ambassadors if possible, and become the first in the Republic of Ireland?

    best regards.....David
