X-TTL crossbrand TTL passtrough

Hello together,
Is it possible to use i.e. a Nikon SB-900 with TTL on a Fuji X-T2 with a V6II in between?
Kind regards,

Torben

  • Yes, that is exactly the idea of the Cactus V6II & V6IIS system. You can use and mix several different off-camera flashes with your camera body.
Just remember that the flash must be digital TTL. The Nikon SB900 is digital TTL.
You need one V6II on your camera and one on each flash.
Please read other posts about the Fuji system. It is necessary to remove the metal spring on your camera hot shoe.
  • Yes you can do it.

I mean the V6II is mounted on the camera and the flash on it - which is normally used with TTL passthrough. Can i mount an V6II on my X-T2 and mount on this the SB-900 and use the flash with TTL? So only on the camera, no wireless triggering, only one V6II in use on the camera. Will this work?
  • It is possible, but I am not a Fuji user.

Yes. That's what the V6II X-TTL design for.

  • So I will be trying a similar setup-x-pro 2 and SB-900.  Should the Flash be in TTL mode or manual?  With my previous Pocket Wizard Nikon kit I believe you had to put the flash in manual
  • The SB-900 needs to be in TTL mode.

    There is also a V6II manual. ;)

  • I'm sorry but the only info that came with my units only describes "pass-through TTL" and states the camera and flash must be from the same system.  The whole point of buying Cactus V6II was the ability to use my legacy Nikon flashes with my Fuji cameras.  I have disabled pass thru and while it triggers my sb900, it doesn't do TTL.
  • The manual you gave the link for also seems to only describe pass through TTL.  I downloaded the FUJI TTL to both units.  They are both channel 1.  They properly detect fuji camera and nikon flash  The TX indicates TTL and the RX says Auto  TTL and Nikon.  Thoughts?
  • You still need to long press MENU button to toggle between:

    1) on-camera M mode
    2) on-camera TTL mode

    Cheers!

the term pass-through ttl is explained as "flash behaves as if it was directly attached to the camera", the initial question was about ONE camera, ONE V6II and ONE flash with ttl system OTHER than camera's one.  as manual describes it, flash is NOT supposed to work then, it's ttl is different, only manual would do, so, no AF, no hss, actually, V6II is plain useless then, just attach your flash directly to the cam.

can you guys confirm it for sure - does a SINGLE v6II TRANSLATE ttl from camera into ttl of the flash then there's NO SECOND V6II involved ? this is a bit ridiculous all the confusion about it, "pass through" means NO translation, but some of  you seem to say v6ii DOES translation as well when flash is directly attached to the top of V6II (well, with hss firmware, as it seems to be). does "cross-brand tll" mean aslo tll *translation* in pass-through mode between camera's hotshoe and the hot shoe on the top of v6II ? if it doesn't, someone shoud explicitly put that into manual : second v6II *is required* for cross-brand ttl to work.
  • Hi @oraio,

The "user manual" you referred to is based on the Multi-brand HSS firmware.

With X-TTL firmware installed on V6 II, such as FUJ.1.002, you indeed only need one (1) V6 II for cross-brand TTL for on-camera flash triggering. For example:

    Camera:  Fujifilm X-T2
    Transmitter: Cactus V6 II
    Flash: Nikon SB-910

You will get automatic on-camera TTL flash exposure.

Second V6 II transceiver is not required.

You may refer to the Quick Start Guides below for further reading:
    Fujifilm:

    Olympus (M43):

    Pentax:

    Sigma:

For Sony, you cannot do cross-brand TTL for on-camera flash due to the special Sony MI hot shoe mount.

    Hope this clears the confusion.

    Cheers!

  • Hello together,
Is it possible to use i.e. a Olympus FL-600R with TTL on a Sigma DP3Q with a V6II in between?
    Kind regards,

  • @liuxj616 Yes. That's exactly what the V6 II X-TTL firmware made for.

You need to update your V6 II firmware with Sigma TTL, which is SIA.A.003, on both transmitter (TX) and receiver (RX) unit. That you can enjoy the cross-brand TTL and HSS.

    Cheers!

  • I’m confused about which update to use. The current Fuji or the new cross brand TTL

The latest Fujfilm X-TTL is FUJ.A.004.
