V6 firmware v2.1.001 & nikon sb-28 as main flash

Hello,

After upgrading to firmware to v2.1.001 I have some issues with my cactus v6.
If I put the V6 on TX mode, the choose NIKON 2B-28 Profile, I noticed that a 'P' into a circle appears on the screen while selecting the different profiles (didn't happen with the previous version). Then I put my SB-28 on top of my cactus, and use MENU & dial to set the power of the main flash.

OK, no matter what power I put, the flash will allways fire at full power.

With previous firmware version, on TX mode and the flash connected to the V6 shoe, I could choose the NIKON SB-28 profile (no 'P' shown on screen) and after that, with MENU + dial I could put any power for the SB-28. Then the SB-28 fired at the selected power.

So my only workaround is to downgrade to previous firmware version.

Regards,
Javier.

  • Hello Javier,

The "P" symbol you see stands for <POWER SYNC>.  It is a flash mode found on the V6 MK2.   It's popping up beside your SB-28 because it is a flash that runs solely on analogue TTL so when it is triggered by a V6 MK2 it can only do what we call as the Power Sync.

By comparison, digital TTL protocol flashes usually support High-speed Sync (HSS / FP), which fires a long pulsing flash signal to cover from before shutter opening to after it closes so the entire image is illuminated.

I am now checking with R&D to see how to sort it out for you.  In the meantime I would advise installing the previous firmware version.

FYI version 2.1.001 was mainly for using the V6 with the V6 MK2.

    Thank you.

  • Thanks Antonio, I did it. Thanks for clarifying what means the "P" symbol.
When, in a future, I had a V6II I could check all these HSS features and how to 'mix' V6II, V6, all my different flashes, etc.

    Regards.
  • Hello, I can confirm that, with a V6 II with 010 firmware, V6 with last firmware, I can control remotely my sb-28 (put on the V6 as RX). Also I can get powesync-HSS. As I don't use the V6 as TX on top of my camera, I'm not worried by the issue with the SB-28 when used as main flash.

    Regards.
  • Thanks for the update, @morenjavi. Glad to hear it's working now.

  • Hello, just to close this thread. I have no idea why, but with the last firmware on my V6, V6 on camera, and SB-28 on top (as main flash) in TTL mode, I can change the power of the SB-28. I couldn't do on June, with the same hw, firm and configuration :?

So no issues at all. Regards.
  • Well, as long as it works!
