    Dear Antonio,
I've just got my new RF60x flash but I can't work with my XT2 in TTL mode mounted on the hot shoe. All the firmware is up to date on both of them. Did I miss something ? Thanks in advance.

  • The X-TTL firmware hasn't been released yet.  It's a value-add that Cactus will be adding to their current products.
  • Thanks a lot Paulster ! Looking forward to getting that update !

So just to confirm, after the new fw update, the RF60x will be able to do TTL when mounted on top of the camera hotshoe?
So if I were to mount it on top of my X-T2, I will have TTL capabilities?
How about HSS while mounted on camera hotshoe?
  • No, the RF60X only has a single hot shoe pin so when directly triggered on camera hot shoe it is a manual flash.

HSS and TTL only works when the flash is wirelessly triggered by a V6 II.

So, it will never work in TTL when directly attached on camera hot shoe ? Are you going to release a firmware update in order to work in TTL mode or it is impossible due to the single hot shoe pin anyway ?
  • Yup, single hot shoe pin = manual flash.

TTL needs the other contact pins for communication between camera and flash.

In other words RF60X can only support TTL and HSS when it is used as an off-camera flash.

I take advantage of your kindness. If I get a V6II on camera and I put the RF60X on it, it will work in TTL mode ? Correct ?

Yes, but there's a trick to it.

Tape up the hot shoe of RF60X (with masking tape) before mounting it on the V6 II, set the flash to Slave mode, and you are all set.

Make sure the working range on the V6 II is set to short.

    Cheers!

Just to clarify Antonio's answer: With the current firmware, you won't get TTL with the RF60x, even with the trick Antonio described.

You'll get HSS, but not TTL (automated metering). Not sure if the trick is even needed to get HSS?
  • Hi, Just got my RF60X, V6II Set to Pentax on Pentax K3 camera, Flash set to Auto Slave,
Press Hold pok Menu, message " TTL systems DO Not Match".

Need some help here, since RF60X suppose to be able to do P-TTL,

    Thanks in advance.

    Philip

  • The X-TTL firmware for Pentax is not available yet.
That is the reason to that error message.
@Antonio have mentioned that will be available on two or three months.
    Be patience.

Holding down the Menu button for 2 seconds turns on <TTL Pass Through>

Pass Through.... meaning you have a flash to mount on-camera.

    This is not for off-camera.

Mount a Pentax flash on the TX unit, then press the Menu button 2 seconds and you will get on-camera TTL.

In the future when we release X-TTL firmware for Pentax, the 2-second push of the Menu button becomes a swapping button between M and TTL mode for the on-camera flash.

So just keep in mind the 2-second menu button press is for the on-camera flash.

    Cheers!

  • Hi, :-) I own a RF60x, and the flash transceiver V6II, and a canon camera, I bought them in april 2018. So normally from what I understand it should work in ttl with the flash on camera as well, as things have changed since 2017? But from my tests it works in manual mode, and I could not find anywhere in the user manual how to switch from manual mode to ttl. I would be grateful if someone could tell me the way to switch mode both with the flash on camera and off camera. Thank you :-)
  • @Ophie To use RF60X TTL from the V6 II, please update them with X-TTL firmware through our firmware updater. It can be downloaded in our Download page (https://www.cactus-image.com/downloads.html) . The page also have X-TTL quick start guide for each camera system, please have a look and you will know more what the X-TTL firmware works.

    I hope that helps.
