Mixing Flash Brands

My camera body is a Fujifilm XT2 and I use a Fuji X500 flash with it. I sometimes like to use off-camera flash and I have a bunch of Canon flashes that I'd like to use to save having to buy another.

My question is, if I put a Cactus V6 II on my camera, and attach my fuji flash to it, will it trigger a Canon flash (set on manual) if I put another Cactus V6 II on the canon flash as well? I wasn't sure whether I could use two different brands of flash at the same time.

You can use different flash brands at same time with the Cactus V6II.
I have used SONY, Cactus and Minolta flashes at same time.
Same is true with other flashes.
But your flash must be on TTL mode, not in manual. You are going to manually set the flash power and the head zoom from your transmiter V6II unit.
Also, your flashes needs to be digital TTL.
For analog TTL flashes you will use the Cactus V6.

  • Thanks @lansa301 for chiming in. you are spot on.

But I must first point out the Fujifilm EF-X500 is not yet fulled supported, at least HSS won't be working yet.

As both an on-camera flash and off-camera flash, you can choose Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Panasonic flashes, just not Pentax and Sony sytem flashes (those can only be used with their own camera system).

This applies to your Fujifilm camera, or a Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Panasonic, Pentax and Sony camera.

    Thanks!

  • Thank you Antonio and Lansa301! That sounds perfect. I will not need HSS anyway  - it is for photographing dancing at weddings so I always tend to have a shutter speed of about 1/125s or less. Thanks!
  • Sounds like the perfect setup for you, @trevorwilson.

    Cheers!
