fw1.1.005 does not support Fuji EF-X500 flash

edited November 2016 in V6 II Compatibility
The Cactus v6 II detects the flash and shows F, but does not fire correctly in any mode (normal, HSS, powersync HSS).

I'm sure you guys are already working on it, just wanted to create a post where I can check for updates on this!

    Thanks @upwithmike

Indeed we are if you follow us on Twitter, FB or IG.

Firmware aside, we notice that the hot shoe alignment changes as you rotate the hot shoe lock lever to the right. It's every so slightly but it misaligns with the V6's hot shoe contact pins.

You will have to NOT mount it fully into the hot shoe before locking itt. So for a more consistent connction, you may need to do a little DIY spacer mod similar to the Nikon D750, and add a small piece of card or couple masking tape layer at the front of the hot shoe.

EDIT:  I moved the thread to under compatibility. ;)

  • Any news? I asume that once the Cactus II is compatible with the HSS of the EF-X500 flash, will be compatible with others, like the Metz M400.
  • A major update is needed on the V6 II in order to support the EF-X500. Since it's sort of a complete new system, a departure from what it was before.

Since Fujifilm did not (or maybe they would?) extend HSS compatibility onto older camera models, such as the X-Pro1. That means we will still need to keep FORCED HSS as an option. This copmbination of old and new will take some time to distill.

We will post updates as we sail through the hurdles. Cheers!

  • I have tested with V6 II with EF-X500, it does work, the only limitation I observed was that you can't change the power to fast, it has to be slowly increase or reduce, and no HSS.

There is no option to turn on the EF-X500 to enable the HSS off camera, except through the X-T2 and X-Pro2 on camera flash menu, or using a master EF-X500.

So I guess unless, Fujifilm update the EF-X500 firmware to allow enabling of HSS.
  • Yeah power control is possible, but still sub-optimal.

We hope to release the next firmware release soon.

Thanks for your patience during this time.

  • Yeah , would be good to get full HSS on this flash.

Mine's seems fine up to 1/250 then nothing beyond that with HSS.

  • hello there,
any news on the HSS compatibility of the v6II with the ef-x500?

    thanks.

    Not yet, unfortunately.

Previously ETA is April... but seems like we need more time to integrate with the new system, so maybe early May just to be on the safe side.

    Thanks for your patience.

  • Any updates on the compatibility with EF-X500?
    No updates yet, schedule wise.

When X-TTL firmware is available, the EF-X500 will be supported. HSS and TTL, both on the camera (V6 II TX) or off-camera.

  • > falevian > Any news? I asume that once the Cactus II is compatible with the HSS of the EF-X500 flash, will be compatible with others, like the Metz M400.

I have just tried out the new Cactus V6II firmware for Fuji X-TTL with a X-Pro2 (everything on the most recent firmware), on the TX-side it appears to work (except for the AF-light which does not recognize signals from the camera) with with a RF60XX on the RX-side.

With an V6II as TX and Metz M400 on a V6II as RX, it does not appear to work right. The flash is not recognized as a fuji one, and when the system is set manually the flash is not regulated by the TX-unit or the camera (of course, consequently TTL does not work)
  • after got x-ttl update, is v6II work with ef-x500 ?
  • after got x-ttl update, is v6II work with ef-x500 ?
Yes. The X-TTL firmware is suitable for EF-X500.

  • Great! The new Fuj.1.00.2 software on the Cactus works perfectly with the X-T2 and X-T20 in conjunction with the EF-X500 without any setting up. Thank you Cactus.
