NEW FEATURE: AF-assist Continuous Light (AF CONTINUOUS)

Quite a number of people have been waiting for this - a manual switch for the V6 II's AF-assist LED, which is especially useful for cameras that do not send an AF-assist signal to the hot shoe, such as Fujifilm and Olympus.

Firmware version 1.1.005.

The new feature will be found under MENU > PREFERENCE > AF-CONTINUOUS

How the AF Continuous Light works

Once switched on, the AF-assist LED will stay on until the camera takes a shot, where it will momentary switches off the LED before the shutter opens, and a couple seconds after the shot is taken, the LED will switch on automatically and ready to assist the camera focus on the next shot.

This feature can be set separate on either transmitter and receiver unit.

FYI we will soon release the new AF-CONTINUOUS feature on the Sony version V6 IIs.

I have tried the AF-CON feature and think it should have been implemented differently.

The AF-assist LED consumes battery power and may be irritating to a human subject. It therefore should not be on for prolonged periods of time.

When the camera is not focusing, there is no point in having the AF-assist light turned on anyhow.

A better implementation, AFAIC, would have been to enable the AF-Assist light manually (e.g., long-press on the dial) for a certain period (perhaps configurable from 3s - 10s).

Given the current "(almost) always on" behaviour and the need to enter the preferences menu to turn on the AF-assist light on/off, I don't see myself using that feature.

Please consider a more practical implementation.

EDIT: I initially reported a problem with the receiver's AF-assist light not synchronising with the AF-assist light of the transmitter. I could replicate the problem once, but not anymore subsequently, so I have removed that remark.

However, it is still a problem that in order to turn off "AF CON" one would have to visit all receivers and manipulate their preferences manually in order to stop them from having their AF-assist lights on.

I suggest a "AF MAN" option in which the receivers are synchronised with the transmitter. Only if the transmitter's AF-assist light is activated manually, the receivers should follow. This approach would make it easy to let the receivers be non-intrusive, unless their AF-assist lights are really actually needed.
