Flash models not supporting profiling

edited February 2015 in V6 Problems

The following is a list of flash models for which people reported unsuccessful attempts at creating custom profiles for them:

  • Centon FG105D (for Pentax)
This flash features analogue TTL but requires communication with the camera. It cannot even be fired by a simple trigger like the Cactus V5 or on another non-Pentax camera.
  • Fuji EF-X8. This flash model does not work using TTL pass-through.
  • Metz 52 AF-1 (for Pentax and for Nikon)
The "for Canon" version is supported, probably through digital communication; this may mean that if the Pentax FGZ II series is ever supported, that the Metz 52 AF-1 will be too.
  • Nissin Di622 (for Nikon)
  • Nissin i40 (for Nikon and Canon)
  • Olympus FL-600R and FL-300R
  • Pentax AF-500 FTZ
  • Phottix Mitros (for Nikon) [the "for Canon" version is supported]
  • Sigma EF-610 DG Super (for Pentax)
  • Sigma EM-140 DG Macro Ring Flash (for Pentax)

Comments

  • I did try to profile a Vivitar 383 though I was reasonably sure it could not be profiled and I was right. Of course the last camera it could be used as a TTL flash was the Pentax K-7. It still can be used with a V5 in manual mode.

Are you talking about the Vivitar DF-383?

    For which camera system?

If it is for Canon or Nikon or Pentax, I would have thought there is a good chance that it can be profiled.

Did it emit two flashes when you tried to profile it? Have you chosen the correct flash (e.g., Canon) system? You need to chose the brand your flash is dedicated to, not the camera brand.

Have you tried whether it works with some of the predefined profiles (for the right flash system, e.g., Canon).

The K-7 does not support analogue TTL. The last Pentax DSLR to do so was the *istDS.

You can also use the V6 to trigger a flash in manual mode. Bit of overkill, if you cannot get the remote power control to work, but you still get the group control.

  • We have tested Phottix Mitros for Nikon, but the V6 doesn't work with that. Class A, Can you add that to your list?

    Thank you.

Thanks, I've added the model to the list.

  • Hello

I tried to make the V6 learn a Sigma EM-140 DG (Macro Ring Flash).

After one or 2 flashes the V6 displays: NOT SUPPORTED

For what system is the EM-140 DG for? Pentax?
I trust you selected the correct system when testing.

What distance did you use to the reflective surface when testing?

Since the flash has such a small guide number, you may need to get closer to the surface so that the V6 can still "see" the reflection.

Perhaps try to see whether you can recognise a difference in power between the two test flashes (it may look very small, though). If there there is a bit of difference, the V6 should be able to profile the flash.

can V6 support  Godox WITSTRO AD360 in the future ?
  • Godox Witsto AD360 is a plain manual flash which doesn't support wireless remote power control by the V6. Hence, the V6 will not support the AD360 in the future.

But if you want to use V6 with AD360, it is possible to use the V6 as a simply manual wireless flash trigger. The V6 can wirelessly trigger the AD360, but no remote power control.

Yes - it is Pentax, I used the pentax profile and had the same distance thought - but even reducing to 30cm it did not work.

  • Hi Class A,

Metz 52 AF-1 for Nikon and Nissin Di622 for Nikon do not support profiling. Can you add that to the list?

    Thanks in advance.

    Just added them. :)
  • Hi Class A,
Nissin i40 for Nikon needs to operate in full TTL protocol. So it is not supported by the V6.

I also try using V6 to learn profile for the i40 (Canon), but not success.

Can you add them to the list?

  • Hi Ray,

I've added the Nissin i40. Sorry for the delay.
  • Thank you Class A,

On the other hand, a user reports that the Fuji EF-X8 is not working with V6 in TTL pass-through mode because the EF-X8 has extra pins than other Fuji flashes. You may be interested to read his post here.

  • The following models will NOT be available in the later firmware updates, due to the limitation of hardware design: Olympus FL-600R, FL-300R .

  • Canon Speedlite 90EX (E-TTL II/E-TTL)

Not supporting profiling, will be supported in the future?

There are some alternative profile that can be used with this flash?

    Thanks

Try using the Canon 320EX Profile, should work!

  • the sigma EF-610 DG Super for NIkon also do not working
  • @JSC unfortunately that model is not compatible with the V6 for remote power control.

  • Last July I mentioned that the Vivitar 383 could not be profiled. Well actually if can, It is a Vivitar        DF-383-PEN. I did forget about this site, sorry, but I got here through a link in Pentax Forums. Anyway I decided to give it another go this morning and I was able to profile the flash. Obviously I screwed up initially.
  • Thanks, I've added the DF-383 to the list of compatible models.

Would like to know do i need to "learn" it from the V6?
  • If you just want to trigger an AD360 by putting it on a V6 receiver then there is no need for "learning" or "profiling".

"Learning" / "Profiling" is only necessary for remote power control, in case the flash model isn't already supported by the V6.
